The strategic planning process at Heal The Youth Foundation (HTYF) from 2019 to 2023 aimed to establish a sustainable organization with a significant positive impact in Nigeria. This article provides insights into the development, objectives, alignment, geographical reach, and beneficiaries of HTYF’s Strategic Plan for Action (SPA).

Development, Review, and Approval Process

The inception of the SPA began in 2018 when the Trustees Chairman greenlit a three-year plan. However, due to time constraints, only half of the agenda was accomplished in a 3-day workshop. Subsequently, a 5-day management meeting was convened to finalize the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan. In April 2020, during an online quarterly review meeting, it was decided to extend the implementation period, initiating a thorough review and validation process.

Goal and Objectives

The SPA 2019 – 2023 aimed to guide HTYF’s activities towards sustainability and positive impact in Nigeria. Supported by five Strategic Objectives, including strengthening resource mobilization, improving referral systems, enhancing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, increasing household resilience and vocational skills, and bolstering staff capacity, the plan set clear targets for organizational growth and effectiveness.

Alignment with International and National Strategies

HTYF’s initiatives under the SPA were strategically crafted to align with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Nigerian national strategies. Targeting key areas such as health, education, social protection, and agriculture, HTYF aimed to contribute significantly to national and international development agendas.

Geographical and Beneficiary Distribution

During the review period, HTYF’s interventions reached 257 communities across Plateau State, six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory, and nineteen Local Government Areas in Bauchi State. Serving a total of 25,563 beneficiaries, with 47% being Orphans and Vulnerable Children and caregivers, HTYF’s impact was widespread, particularly among vulnerable populations.

The SPA represents HTYF’s commitment to strategic planning for sustainable development and impactful interventions. Through meticulous planning, stakeholder engagement, and a focus on measurable outcomes, HTYF continues to make strides towards its goal of creating a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth and vulnerable populations.
