A devastating incident has unfolded in a community in Plateau, Nigeria, where suspected bandits have launched a brutal attack. The assault has resulted in the tragic loss of over 40 lives and the destruction of numerous homes.

The assault was orchestrated in Zurak village, nestled in the Bashar District of the Wase local government area. The bandits, who descended upon the village in large numbers, wreaked havoc on the unsuspecting villagers, leaving behind a scene of utter devastation.

The onslaught by the bandits resulted in the death of over 40 villagers, including members of the local vigilante groups. Several others were left nursing injuries in the aftermath of the attack. The community, caught unawares around 7 pm on a Monday evening, was unable to promptly report the incident due to inadequate communication networks in the area.

The aftermath of the attack was marked by the destruction of several homes. The surviving villagers, fearing for their safety, sought refuge in neighbouring communities. At the time of the reports, security personnel had yet to arrive at the community.

This incident is not an isolated one. Zurak village has been grappling with the menace of banditry for some time now. The bandits have been targeting a local mining company situated in this border town between the Wase and Kanam areas. The situation escalated into a gunfight, with the bandits threatening to wipe out the villagers.

The incident underscores the pressing need for enhanced security measures in the region. Attempts to reach the spokespersons of the state police command and OPSH Major Samson were unsuccessful at the time of the reports.
