Nigerians on Twitter have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the APC government, particularly since President Bola Tinubu took office. The introduction of economic reforms, including the elimination of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the Naira, has led to unprecedented inflation, hitting food prices hard and causing widespread economic struggles and hunger.
The economic reforms, intended to stabilize the economy, have instead left many Nigerians struggling to make ends meet. The removal of fuel subsidies has in turn leads to high cost of transportation, leading to higher prices for food and other essential goods. The devaluation of the Naira has also reduced purchasing power, making imports more expensive and exacerbating the economic crisis.
Nigerians have taken to Twitter to express their frustration, using the platform to share their experiences and call for change. With over 36.75 million social media users in Nigeria, platforms like Twitter have become vital channels for citizens to voice their opinions and hold leaders accountable.
Some of the concerns raised by Nigerians on Twitter include:
– Soaring Food Prices: The cost of basic food items has become unaffordable for many Nigerians, leading to widespread hunger and malnutrition across the Country. Cassava flakes popularly know as “Garri” can’t be afforded by the Citizens which has leave many in doubt as what was ones food for the “supposedy masses” has become food for the rich.
Nigerians are now faced with the reality of severe hunger across the Country and many are calling on the government to look into the high prices of foodstuffs.
Many Nigerians have now lost hope as against the Renewed Hope preached by this administration, with citizens crying out that the PDP led administration is better off this current Administration.
Engr. Shaibu (@MO_Shaibu_) took to his X handle saying “PDP’s Government was a lot more better than this useless APC government. Truth be told!
– Economic Inequality: The reforms have disproportionately affected the poor and vulnerable, widening the gap between the rich and the poor.
It’s been said that the poor are getting more poorer in the Country, most citizens have lost their purchasing power and cannot longer live conveniently anymore. The gap between the rich and the poor has greatly increased, leading to Economic inequality in the country. The hope of the Vulnerable have been dashed, as a result of unfavorable Policies being rolled out by the current Administration.
– Lack of Transparency: Many Nigerians feel that the government has not been transparent about the reforms and their impact on the economy. The Source of funding for most projects carried by the current administration are lacks transparency. Many Nigerians believes that Loans taken by this administration are tied to clauses which are not beneficial to the Country.
The National grid which have left most Northern part of the Country has become a topic on X which has kept many talking. Most Nigerians have expressed their displeasure over the Non-challant behavior of the government. Many northern are now encouraging others to vote out this current Administration coming next election over failures to deliver on their promises.
As the economic situation continues to deteriorate, Nigerians are demanding action from their leaders. The Twitter outcry is a testament to the power of social media in amplifying the voices of citizens and holding leaders accountable.
Will the government listen to the concerns of Nigerians and adjust their economic policies? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the voices of Nigerians on Twitter will continue to be heard loud and clear.
